Comparisson between essays

The book of A Clockwork Orange has been catalogued and criticized because of it´s language and the way it describes situations of rape and violence, but in these essays there
is another way to look at the text, and that would be the music.
Pulping A Clockwork Orange is talking about what the music did to the book and the movie, there are moments in which you can think that it is violent when you hear the song "singing in the rain"  while alex rapes the writer´s wife and punches the writer himself, even if the idea was to make it easier to watch and embrace the story, there is a point when it even seems disgusting and hard to look, because what the music does is trying to make you think that stuff is good but not really. Also it is seen when Alex is being tortured watching the videos and listening to Beethoven, it makes you think of disgust and only that a very twisted mind would create something that brutal, and there is where Burguess tries to blame Kubrik, but the reality is that in the essay it mentions that the use of nadtsa in the book makes it a little more understandable but when the vocabulary is used, you can barely understand what is said, and you end up getting none of the story.

A Clockwork Orange and Its Discontents, the author says that it was a real work of brutality and nonsense, and that Kubrik´s adaptation was like a life saver to what it would be for the book, because of the use of the music, there is a way to understand what Alex is going through and that you can get to the idea by listening to it. Also in the essay it says that there are some terms that can be associated to another ones, like the violence and sex are associated to the power and control someone has over the others, also how the music makes you feel the freedom and understand what is going on with the characters heads, but also how this music makes you feel uncomfortable withe the atmosphere in the movie and in the book you do not really get to the idea at the right point to understand what they are doing.

I don´t really think i can criticize this work because as in the movie or the book they really make a great success for their certain kind of audience and got to make the story be remembered by lots and lots of people, more than getting to what they mean while they were doing them, there is a lot of work, effort, and in fact a really good story, if it wasn´t like that, why would there be so many articles about it?

  1. Good job summarizing the articles. Try and interpret them. What do you think about what they say? You also need to watch your sentence structure. Where you would put a comma in Spanish, in English you need to put a period.
