Why Writing in English is so hard ?

About to finish my first year of High School and to start my first three month vacation, I've realized that writing English was not as easy as I thought, in first place  the first time that I was told to write a comparative essay between Carlos Slim and Steve Jobs I noticed that English and Spanish when it comes to writing are not the same. Starting my second semester my English teacher gave me  the assessment of writing an essay that worth the 30 % of my grade, obviously I work hard for getting a good grade but that was not enough because I got a horrible 88 :(

Since that, I'm constantly trying to improve and the ironic thing is that I'm a good writer but in Spanish and the English writing has these strange rules that you must follow in order to make a good essay, reason enough for making the English writing harder.

My comparative essay between two well-known businessmen took me years and even though I changed a bunch of times, according to my teacher my writing was like a dog chasing his tale , repeating the words, not being completely concise and with grammar mistakes, as that was my first essay I didn't worry I mean, I thought that as I was starting a new scholar system I just had to adjust to the different way of working and that's it BIG MISTAKE, that didn't happen. Instead,  I've been told to do more and more essays and every time that I finished an essay and I am happy with the result, guess what ??, its wrong or I'm not being concise.

The rules that my English teacher says about  the essay  are  an Introduction with a Thesis statement and three arguments that will help you to prove that you are right and also as a guide for the development of the essay and finally, your conclusions, sounds easy right?, well I thought the same at the beginning. Now, every time that I have to write an essay I get nervous and angry because instead of improving my essay I'm just stuck.

I guess I'll have to create new ways for writing like, starting with the arguments and then the introduction and try to be specific without writing more than what is needed, but how can you be specific and not writing a lot of words? THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE  how I'm supposed to write an 800 words essay with just being specific ? Nevertheless, is something that I have to learn how to do it but, I just hope that it doesn't take me that long.

  1. Nice post, your written voice comes across in the expression of your sentiments. I realize that I may have been a bit tough and demanding when it comes to your writing. That does not; however, mean that your writing is aweful or horrible. On the contrary, your writing has improved and will continue to do so because of your drive, dedication and pleasure of writing. ... You have some grammatical errors with verbs -- tenses and forms -- generic nouns, prepositions and sentence structure. They don't cause problems in understanding, but they do detract from your essays. You hit the nail on the head; being specific, concise and insightful while keeping it short is the challenge. In my opinion, the best way to accomplish this is by expanding your vocabulary so that you can use words that convey the specific meaning you want, rather than using longer phrases. Your doing a great job! Keep it up!
